Club Rugby Review - 26 April, 2014

Athletic Marist ended Old Boys unbeaten run in Citizens Shield rugby with a gutsy 28-24 win on Saturday. In the curtain raiser Excelsior retained fourth place with a 64-20 win over Kurow while Valley kept is third position with a 49-24 win over Maheno.

Ekeroma Sauileoge gave Excelsior an early start with a 45 metre dropped goal after six minutes but Old Boys ran in tries to Ralph Darling, Isitola Hafoka, Sale Pi'i while Tai Aholelei kicked two conversions to give Old Boys a 19-6 lead at halftime with Excelsior first five eighth Kayne Middleton kicking a penalty in the 39th minute. Tries to lock Paea ‘Ala, hooker Wayde Hodgen, replacement Unga Kefu, and conversions by Aholelei and Pi'i gave Old Boys a 38-6 lead midway through the half, Excelsior lock Malu Falepaini narrowed the margin but late tries to winger Omega Masoe and replacement half Jackson Reid and a Aholelei conversion took Old Boys into the half century.

North Otago Rugby Review April 8, 2014

Old Boys remains the only unbeaten side in Citizens Shield rugby when in a high scoring game it game defeated Valley, 51-35.Athletic Marist ended Excelsior’s unbeaten run with a convincing 36-0 win while it was a memorable day for the Maheno club as its premier side ended its losing drought when it defeated Kurow, 30-13 ending a run of 25 losses in club rugby since it last victory in June, 2012.

North Otago Rugby Results, April 1 2014

Old Boys and Excelsior remain the only unbeaten teams in Citizens Shield rugby after the playing of the second round on Saturday. Excelsior beat Maheno, 37-31 and Old Boys powered away from Kurow, 70-17, while in Oamaru Valley came from behind to beat Athletic Marist 26-24.
