Valley held out a spirited second half comeback from Kurow at Kurow but retained its unbeaten record with a narrow 23-17 win. Old Boys cemented its hold on second place and moved to within two points of Valley with a 29-18 win over Excelsior while a rejuvenated Maheno side went down to Athletic 22-29.

North Otago Rugby Review

Valley made it seven from seven when in an illtempered game at Weston it beat Athletic,24-8. The match was marred by the Athletic players at one stage in the second half walking off the field after one of its players had been red carded by referee Wayne Boyle. Sanity somehow prevailed and the match eventually ran its course.Excelsior avenged its first round defeat with a 43-7 win over Kurow, while Old Boys beat bottom team Maheno, 63-25.

Valley made it six from six with an eleven try 67-8 defeat of Maheno at the Maheno Domain on Saturday. Excelsior scored two tries to one to beat Athletic,16-5 while in a close encounter Old Boys beat Kurow,31-22 at Kurow.

Valley maintained its unbeaten record in Citizens shield rugby with 20-13 win over Excelsior on Saturday. Athletic moved into second place with a 32-31 win over Old Boys while Kurow registered its second win of the season with a 36-0 win over Maheno.
